Imagine pedaling your way through Manhattan, enjoying the sites, the sounds, the sometimes questionable smells…Streamers flying in the wind, Spokey Dokes whirling on your wheels, traffic whizzing by at your side.
Okay, maybe no streamers and Spokey Dokes, but remember how cool you thought those were as a kid?
For those who don’t have a bike, but want to take a ride around the island, FF reader Lauren wrote in about a great FREE bike program she tested out that’s made possible by the Downtown Alliance and a grant from State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
Through its second annual Bike Around Downtown program, the Downtown Alliance will provide the public with free bicycle rentals that can be picked up at the Bike and Roll kiosk at the South Street Seaport (South Street and Fulton Street).
There are 30 free bikes available during each of the three sessions, listed below. Sessions run Monday through Sunday.
9:30AM – 12:00PM12:30PM – 3:00PM3:30PM – 6:00PM
Biking not only saves you a metro card (take that, MTA), but it’s also the greener way around town.
Check out the Downtown Alliance bike share program here. Bikes are available from now until September 30.
