The best way to describe today's subject is imagine eBay meets DailyCandy meets Yelp! In other words, local daily deals complete with product/location reviews.
Thanks to FF reader Leah for introducing us to Groupon, a lesson in collective buying.
From wine tasting to bowling outings to burgers, each day Groupon highlights the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in your city at an unbeatable price.
By promising businesses a minimum number of customers, Groupon is able to secure special discounts not found anywhere else.
So how do you get the deal?
All you have to do is sign up for the featured deal and click "buy" before the offer expires at midnight. If the minimum number of people sign up, you'll get a printable gift certificate in your inbox the next morning that you can use whenever you want. If not enough people join, no one gets it (and you won't be charged), so the idea is to invite your friends to make sure you get the deal, though you don't have to participate with friends.
To give you a taste, today's deal is $20 for $40 worth of southern BBQ at Duke's.
Use this link to sign up, and if you refer a friend, you can get a $10 coupon.
Groupons are fantastic! I scooped up a $25 facial at one of the best spas in the dc/metro area and was able to treat and join a deserving friend for her birthday. Next week, I'm heading out to a haunted house at the Museum of Crime and Punishment - my 2 tickets were 25% off the regular asking price.
