Like Moths to a Flame

Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of communication, but a good storyteller is hard to find.

The Moth, a not-for-profit storytelling organization, is bringing back the age-old tradition, and anyone with a good imagination and a knack for engaging an audience can get involved.

StorySLAMs are held in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Detroit. New York slams are four times a month at The Bitter End, South Paw, and Housing Works Bookstore and Cafe.

A stage, a microphone, and a theme are provided to participants. SLAM stories are limited to five minutes, and ten stories are told. The stories are scored by three teams of audience-member judges. SLAM winners are then invited to face off in a Moth GrandSLAM.

No scripts, no index cards, no notes scribbled on the palms of your hands, just pure performance.
