The success of Groupon and LivingSocial has spawned a slew of local deal sites, but who are we to complain?
The latest on the scene is Scoutmob, which offers mobile deals on restaurants, bars and entertainment. Like its peers, Scoutmob spotlights one deeply discounted local deal every day -- today's is 50% off Cocoa Bar in Park Slope. Unlike competitors, there is no purchase necessary to get the deal. Just type in your cell number and get it sent to your phone and then present the discount code at the point of purchase.
Scoutmob is currently available in Atlanta, San Francisco and NYC with plans, according to their website map, to launch in your typical smorgasbord of popular cities like Chicago; Austin; Los Angeles; and Springfield, Illinois. Yes, one of these things is not like the other.
