A Piece of the Middle East Comes to the West Side

Chelsea is the mecca of art in New York City. As a resident of the culture-heavy 'hood for almost four years, I'm almost ashamed to say that I've never been the Chelsea Art Museum.

Now may finally be the time!

From now until September 5, the museum's featured exhibit is Iran Inside Out, which showcases 210 works of 56 contemporary Iranian artists -- 35 artists living and working in Iran alongside 21 others living in the Diaspora. The paintings, sculptures, videos, photography, and installations take an intimate look at a country so often defined by war, cultural paradoxes and political unrest. Iran Inside Out delves a bit deeper to reveal a world hidden from the sensational headlines and prying news cameras.

Tickets to the Chelsea Art Museum exhibit are $8 for adults and $4 for students.

For the world travelers out there, the exhibit will move to Dubai in March 2010.
