Reading to Save the Planet

Earth Day is here, which means lots of stats about just how poorly we're treating our planet.

According to online book retailer BetterWorldBooks.com, 71% of unwanted books end up in the landfill or become waste of some sort (see graphic).

That's why the company, which was featured on FF last Earth Day, collects all those neglected books and resells them online, giving a portion of the profits to literacy programs around the world. To date, BWB has saved more than 32 million books from the landfill.

in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, FF readers can get 20% off three or more used books on BetterWorldBooks.com with the promo code: EARTHDAY10.
