Spring Greening

Did you know that 5.7% of New York's waste stream consists of textiles? New Yorkers discard more than 193,000 tons of textile waste every year.

But this year, your spring cleaning can help benefit the environment.

Clean out your closet in honor of Earth Day (April 22). Every Monday and Saturday, now through April 24, bring your used clothing, shoes, boots, hats, jackets, towels, bedding, and linens to the Union Square Greenmarket to be recycled. The Council on the Environment of New York City will provide receipts for those who want to use their donation as a charitable contribution.

For other drop-off locations, visit http://cenyc.org/clothing.
