A Little Weekend Culture

Art and music on a Saturday afternoon? Not a bad deal for a mere $10.

P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center is an affiliate to the MoMA, nestled unassumingly in Long Island City. P.S.1 presents over 50 exhibitions each year, but what seems to be generating the most buzz is the non-profit's Warm Up summer music series. The series is housed within the architectural installation created by the winner of the annual P.S.1 and MoMA organized Young Architects Program.

On Saturdays, from 2:00-9:00 p.m., for a $10 admission fee, music fans, artists, families, hipsters, architects, and curious New Yorkers gather to enjoy the sites and hear the musical mixings of international DJs like DJ Harvey, Groove Collective, Lovebug Starski, Afrika Bambaataa, Prins Thomas & Hans-Peter Lindstrom, Mad Professor, Derrick May, Swayzak, Luke Vibert, and many more.

MoMA members can attend for free by flashing their memberships card. Check here for a list of current exhibitions.

If I can ever kick this cold, I plan to check it out tomorrow and will return with a full report.
